“My head is at ease knowing that what was meant for me will never miss me, and that what misses me was never meant for me" - Imama al-shafi’i. So often we spend our time focussing on other people and their needs because we’re told that doing anything else is a selfish act. Well I completely disagree and I believe that focussing on making sure our needs are met gives us more space and more time to be fully present and engaged with others. I spent many many years unconsciously eating my bodyweight in food, smoking and drinking to suppress my feeling of unease and disquiet. I really didn’t know who I was or what made me happy.
These days it’s a completely different story - I know many of the things that make me happy and I do them every day. What I also love is that I still don’t know myself completely and it changes as I’m constantly evolving. I’m learning, exploring and experimenting with the things that bring me joy. What I noticed is that when I focus on creating more opportunities that bring me joy, then the dull ache and discomfort inside of me that craves to be filled is then full. Let’s focus on being self-full! Many of us don’t know what brings us joy, fills our void and makes us happy so I’d like to bring some awareness to a few tools that can help. Joy is something not something that you earn, it’s inherent in your nature. When you’re not living in your joy, you’re denying yourself your birthright. In your journal, or somewhere sacred I’d like you to take a moment today to answer some of these questions:
The idea is to bring some awareness to who is a positive influence in your life and who is being destructive. That doesn’t mean you have to stop hanging out with them (yes, hello mum!) but it does mean that you have the power to stop going to her (or him) for approval and direction. Lastly, I’d like you to focus every day on doing at least 1 thing that brings you joy. By tapping into your joy you are tapping into your heart. When you tap into your heart and its desires your world has the opportunity to up level and significantly and positively transform. Hurrah! I love you all. Let’s keep the conversations going and share how we feel about this today. Dawn xx
