Amino acids are the what make up protein, and of the of the 20 amino acids only 9 are unable to be made by the body.
So where do these amino acids come from? Plants. Here’s how it works: The plants grow - the animals eat them - then eat the animals (cows eat grass, people eat cows). OR The plants grow - we eat them. ALL essential amino acids originate from plants… Say what? It’s true! Sine if the largest and strongest animals like elephant and rhinoceroses get ALL their protein and nutritional needs met through plants. If you’re eating enough food made from plants then it’s almost impossible to be protein-deficient. These foods are amazingly high in protein: - Leafy greens - Beans. Lentils are 36% protein! - Nuts and seeds Here’s the most amazing part of the story: if you’re eating a nutrient-dense plant-based diet with variety then you automatically have enough protein, carbs, and fat! So no need for measuring, counting or weighing any more! Wow! What’s even better is that unlike meat protein, plant protein also comes with phytonutrients, antioxidants, fibre, vitamins, and minerals… and no dietary cholesterol saturated fat or anything else that causes heart disease, type 2 diabetes and more. So now I think the question is: where do YOU get your protein? xx
